Death Valley National Park - April 2019

Death Valley in sand storm

The adventure began in Las Vegas with a quick side-trip to the Valley of Fire State Park before traveling through the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, then into Death Valley National Park. We made stops at Zabriskie Point and Furnace Creek before reaching our home-base at Stovepipe Wells. As we drew closer to the Mesquite Sand Dunes, we were soon engulfed in a wild desert sand storm.

This night time shoot took place at Rhyolite Ghostown near the northeast side of the park. We saw wild burros grazing road side. We also visited the Badwater Salt Flats, Artists' Drive, Devil's Golfcourse, Ubehebe Crater, and we also stumbled upon an old airstrip (still in use weather permitting.)

We were in the park 3 nights and celebrated with a group dinner in Las Vegas upon our return to the city.

Death Valley remains one of my favorite places to photograph and it's on the Dark Sky Park registry.
