The Story....
My parents had us traveling around the United States at a very early age. The travel bug has been alive and well ever since. At the age of 16, my mom let me drive us on a 500 mile road trip (quickly learning how to overcome fear while driving through a tornado.) After that, I ventured out on my own to visit relatives in other states traveling by myself mostly. After gaining confidence with travel, my friend groups trusted me to plan beach get-aways, which seemed to always result in epic adventures. I loved seeing the great United States. Eventually, my travel adventures led to me traveling solo across the United States. My first big solo trip was an Alaskan Cruise. I remember butterflies in my stomach tickling me when seeing a "you are here" map while I was in the Yukon Territory of Canada. Realizing how far away I was from anything familiar was exhilarating. Everything was new. I felt alive. Traveling alone felt so freeing. I knew at that moment, my love of travel would always be with me. After the cruise, I spent 7-days exploring the Seattle area, navigating the ferry system, renting an SUV for car-camping so I could explore Olympic National Park on a budget. This is one vacation that impacted all others. I cried when it was over. I remember dropping off my Dodge Durango at SEA-TAC airport and weeping on the shuttle all the way to the terminal.
I've had the privilege of seeing 48 of the 50 states and have recently began exploring International destinations. I've visited 19 countries (so far!) I love the National Park system (it exists in other countries too!) and I strive to incorporate a Park, National Wildlife Refuge, UNESCO site, or some aspect of nature in all my travels. I love a dirt road. I've hiked volcanoes, swam in waterfalls, and snorkeled the Great Barrier Reef. I don't consider myself a daredevil, but more of a curious soul just wanting to feel alive. Sometimes the best experiences happen off the beaten path. For me, this is travel.
